As a resident, I can tell you that the best golf is during the summer. Why? Cheap rates and very little competition for tee times. A few courses here even have air conditioned golf carts... Same deal with Four Wheeling. Except going 4x4 in the summer could be your 'final ride' should you break down in middle of desert during 110 degree day. Definately end of October through early April, if you want to have the best weather.

However, I have gone 3 times and I always go in July, believe it or not. We golf at 6:00am and we NEVER have trouble getting a tee time. Nothing is crowded.. the best hotels are 50% or more off the high season prices. Last year, I went to Mesa/PHX and stayed 3 nts at the Biltmore Golf Resort and Spa, golf for 2 included, breakfast included, plus one massage each and I had a Superior room for $900 total with taxes. (a 1-hour massage alone is $130) AND the airfare from Detroit was $220 each. Check out prices if you ever have summer weekend free. First choice for me would be november..
